v2.3 updates:
The latest update in Waelar v2.3 is heavily driven by user feedback, focusing on real-world usability and workflow improvements.
A completely reworked preset system has been introduced, offering better organization, favourites.
The new Drift module has been added, bringing subtle, organic movement to the sound engine for a more natural and evolving character.
Numerous GUI refinements have been implemented to improve clarity, consistency, and overall interaction, resulting in a cleaner and more responsive experience.
In addition, the internal parameter system has been expanded and aligned to support full DAW MIDI control and automation, ensuring seamless integration with modern production environments.
Overall, this update reflects a strong focus on stability, usability, and musical practicality based on direct user input.
At the moment, Waelar v2.3 is available for Windows only.
Support for macOS and Linux is planned for the future, but due to current technical and resource constraints, those versions are not part of this release.
Waelar v2.3 – Overview:
Waelar v2.3 is a modern dual-oscillator virtual synthesizer built around a clear idea: delivering fast, musical results without interrupting the creative flow. Instead of forcing the user into complex routing or excessive parameter tweaking, Waelar focuses on immediacy, coherence, and sound quality. Every element of the instrument—from its signal path to its interface—is designed to support intuitive interaction while still offering enough depth for detailed sound design.
The engine has been refined to ensure stability, consistency, and musical behavior across both simple and complex use cases. Whether used for quick idea generation or more deliberate sound shaping, Waelar v2.3 provides a balanced environment where creativity is not slowed down by technical friction. Its architecture supports modern production workflows, with full parameter control, automation compatibility, and a responsive interface that scales reliably.
A defining aspect of Waelar is the integration of intelligent systems that assist the user without taking control away. Features like Inspire and Drift extend the instrument beyond traditional synthesis by introducing structured variation and organic movement, while still preserving predictability and musical usability.
Latest updates: 27.04.2026.: sustain pedal support added
Features
Dual Oscillator Engine
Waelar v2.3 is built on a dual-oscillator voice architecture with multiple waveform options, including sine, square, triangle, saw, and pulse. Each oscillator features independent coarse and fine tuning, allowing for precise pitch control and detuning. The oscillator mix enables smooth blending between sources, supporting both clean tones and complex layered textures.
Noise Section
A dedicated noise generator includes both white and pink noise components, along with a continuous color control and a dedicated noise filter. This allows for subtle enhancement of the sound or more aggressive shaping when required.
Unison and Stereo Width
Unison is available in multiple voice configurations, with an adjustable spread parameter that controls stereo width and detune behavior. This enables anything from focused mono reinforcement to wide, immersive sounds.
Filter Section
The filter stage offers both SVF and ladder models, with selectable modes and slopes. Additional controls include cutoff, resonance, drive, key tracking, and envelope modulation. The system supports both clean filtering and more character-driven tonal shaping.
Envelopes and Dynamics
A full ADSR envelope controls amplitude, with an additional envelope available for filter modulation. The system is designed for stability and precision, ensuring consistent behavior even in polyphonic and layered scenarios.
LFO Modulation
Two independent LFOs provide flexible modulation routing. Each LFO includes multiple waveform types and can target pitch, pulse width, cutoff, and resonance. Rate and depth controls allow for both subtle motion and more pronounced modulation effects.
Velocity Modulation
Velocity can be routed to both amplitude and filter parameters, allowing for expressive performance and dynamic control directly from MIDI input.
Effects Section
Waelar v2.3 includes an integrated effects chain with chorus, delay, and reverb. Each effect has dedicated controls and can be enabled independently. The effects are designed to enhance spatial depth and movement without overwhelming the core sound.
Output Stage
A controlled output stage includes gain adjustment and optional soft clipping. This ensures consistent output levels and prevents unwanted distortion while allowing for subtle saturation when desired.
Harmony System
The Harmony module transforms single notes into harmonically correct chords based on selected key, scale, and note count. This enables rapid creation of musically coherent progressions while maintaining full control over tonal structure.
Preset System
The preset system supports factory and user presets with category organization, favourites, and import/export functionality. Presets can be saved individually or as part of a bank, and the system ensures reliable synchronization between stored data and the current engine state.
Inspire
Inspire is an intelligent sound generation system designed to create usable sounds instantly. Instead of relying on purely random parameter values, it operates within structured relationships and category-based constraints. This ensures that generated patches remain coherent, balanced, and musically relevant. Inspire modifies multiple aspects of the engine simultaneously, including oscillators, modulation, filtering, and effects, while maintaining internal consistency and avoiding unusable combinations.
Drift
Drift introduces controlled, organic variation into the sound engine. It continuously and subtly modulates parameters such as pitch, phase, and other time-dependent characteristics to emulate natural instability. The effect adds movement and depth to the sound without compromising tuning or clarity. Drift operates transparently, enhancing the overall character rather than drawing attention to itself, and its intensity can be adjusted to suit different musical contexts.
Automation and Integration
All major parameters are integrated into a structured parameter system, allowing full automation and external control. This ensures compatibility with modern DAWs and hardware controllers, supporting both studio production and live performance workflows.
Real-Time Spectrum Visualization
Waelar features a built-in spectrum analyzer that lets you see your sound as you shape it.
From deep lows to shimmering highs, it provides clear and stable visual feedback in real time.
